Obsession is another Japanese horror title put out by FlowersRite花之祭P, creator of Purify and Mayfly.
RobertWK’s Review: Obsession is another story-based adventure horror world from the creator of Mayfly and Purify that also presents aspects of Japanese culture as a basis for the plot. Obsession is in some ways less scary than Purify and Mayfly, but deals with topics that seem more personal and tragic than the other two entries. The puzzling is good overall and the mechanics are interesting even if there is some back-and-forth that can be frustrating for some. Unfortunately I have to provide some feedback that the end sequence can be a little bit buggy. I was unable to complete it in the proper way, despite both Katchy and Ondanya being able to get through to the end just fine. I would still recommend this world as the story is captivating and the mechanics are decent. (Rating: 7)
Katchy’s Review:
I had this one on my list for many months. I had previously done both Purify and Mayfly from the same author, and I ended up enjoying those two a bit more than Obsession. That’s not to say it’s bad; it’s just kind of slow and just a bit too dark. The puzzles are decent and the scares are subtle, save for one near the end. Definitely worth a playthrough, especially if you can’t get enough of East Asian-inspired horror.
