Chiptune Music Visualizer is a documentation of the capabilities of the sound chips within the SEGA Megadrive (EU, Japan+)/Genesis (US), and a demonstration of the waveforms produced by them.

  • RobertWK’s Review: I owned a SEGA Genesis, and some of the games I had (particularly Gunstar Heroes, one of the best games ever) featured some really killer tunes. This world is both a trip down nostalgia lane and a technical report of the sound capabilities of the YM2612 audio chips featured within the console. If you’re unfamiliar with how different synthesized audio instruments are represented by waveforms, then this world is a great opportunity to see how it works while also jamming out to some of your favorite Genesis/MD hits. There are also a few homebrew/scene tracks on here that are technically impressive, such as a remix of Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz. Even if you’re not into the technical aspects of digital audio sound generation, come visit for the tracks alone and enjoy the audio feedback devices within the world. (Rating: 8.5)
  • Katchy’s Review: Love this world! Being able to see FM synthesis in action is neat, and the track selection is among the best the Genesis/Megadrive has to offer. I love that you can not only see the various channels waveforms in action, but the notes being played as well. It’s almost hypnotic. Shout out to the demoscene tracks – those really showcase the potential of the Genesis sound chip. There are a few different toys to play with here as well making it a fun destination for friends to hang out. (Rating: 8.5)
