VMoVA is the Virtual Museum of Virtual Art, currently hosting an exhibit called “Thickness of Calligraphy.”

  • RobertWK’s Review: The Virtual Museum of Virtual Art is a installation series that shows work by individual artists. The current exhibit, “Thickness of Calligraphy”, is a chronicle of Boyan’s journey to make an accurate 3d representation of traditional Chinese calligraphy. The exhibit includes a timeline, technical details about the way Boyan created 3D strokes, and a generalized story about Boyan’s struggles to define the artform while managing their own existence. The artist who developed this system of 3d calligraphy strokes was incredibly smart about it, and you should make time to check out VMoVA’s exhibit, even if calligraphy isn’t your thing. • Katchy’s Review: VMoVA is a virtual museum in a class of its own. It doesn’t rely on 2D paintings by an artist or 3D models haphazardly added to a fake museum. It has something very interesting going for it, which is more like the experience of getting to know the artist through a 3rd person. The 3D calligraphy displayed here works very well even as someone who can’t read the language, and it’s quite interesting to see how the artist invented various techniques, as well as going over the challenges he faced.
