This is Virtual Worldhoppers’ Top 5 look at music worlds in VRChat! These worlds will let you either create your own tunes, learn something about the way music is made, or rock out with your ears and your eyes to your favorite tunes.
A lot of worlds in VRChat let you watch or listen to media with your friends, but these worlds push it just a little bit further. Some of them let you create your own music, while others let you make your own experience.
1. Tanuki Tunes – タヌキトゥーンズ

A lot of worlds in VRChat feature media players of some kind, but Tanuki Tunes is unique as it brings you a virtual record store experience just like how they used to be when stores like Tower Records and Sam Goody dominated the retail music landscape.
See our review of Tanuki Tunes.
2. AudioOrbs

Do you remember WinAmp? Sonique? Any of the highly-skinnable MP3 and other audio media players from the 90s and 2000s? Do you love that rave-inducing EQ experience? Then look no further, because AudioOrbs has got you covered. With a lot of customizable features for the landscape, AudioOrbs is one of the most polished audio visualizer worlds in VRC today.
3. Chiptune Music Visualizer

Did you own the 16-bit SEGA console back in the day (“Mega Drive”/”Genesis”)? Do you remember some of the blazing tunes on titles such as Gunstar Heroes, Zero Wing, or the Sonic Series? Chiptune Music Visualizer is an excellent opportunity to not only jam out to those songs, but to get an appreciation of how the audio chips reproduced those grooving background earworms of yesteryear. If you’re into 16-Bit SEGA songs or want to learn more about digital audio technology, check this place out!

4. Rhythm and Timbre

Now that you’ve jammed out to your favorite music, and you’ve seen how digital audio tracks are represented in hardware, take the chance to experiment and create your own beats in VRC.
Rhythm and Timbre is a digital sequencer that comes preloaded with different instruments for you to queue up and modify for your creative pleasure. It offers different options and adjustments without getting in the weeds regarding waveforms or manual note adjustments using a tracker. It is feature rich just enough to get your feet wet about creating music, as well as being an audio linked world light show. Once you get a good beat going the world provides visual feedback to help you feel like you’re making an actual sequenced tune.
See our review of Rhythm and Timbre.
5. Fractone

Fractone is the culmination of everything we’ve featured so far, and kicks it up one more technical notch. This world is a full-on sequencer/tracker/synthesizer that allows for control of analogue and digital waveforms, individual notes, instrument definition, and many other options. It features a full size keyboard playable with mallets, lots of knobs for adjustments, and import/export of this data to a plaintext file you can carry into a desktop project. If you want to try full fledged song production in VRC, Fractone is your chance to give it a go.
